Brown Panther and The Great Gatsby at Longchamp

There was some good racing at Longchamp today with the Great Gatsby returning to France for the Grand Prix De Paris having won the French Derby at 19.9 on the PMU last month.  The 12.5 furlongs in the French Derby on good ground was perfect for him but today’s conditions were completely different racing over 12 furlongs on very soft ground.  Connections had voiced concerns over the going and by the way it was reported they were only turning up because they were already there and he didn’t really have any chance.

The negativity surrounding the horse caused him to drift out pre-race to over 7 on Betfair but returned only 3.5 on the French PMU even though there was a really strong home favourite for the French in Prince Gibraltar.

There’s usually great opportunities to back English runners on the PMU and then lay them off on Betfair for a free bet or arb as you can usually get the English and Irish runners a lot bigger on the PMU but with all bad vibes surrounding The Great Gatsby everyone seemed to be wanting to lay him causing him to drift out massively.

The stayers race earlier in the day did provide us with a chance to back English horses on the PMU at bigger prices and lay off on betfair.  Brown Panther went off at 2.7 on the PMU but was traded down to nearly evens on Betfair. He ended up finishing second to Terrubi who was 5.5 on the PMU but returned 9.55 on BSP.

If you want to bet in the French PMU pools to get the best prices on the UK runners then your best place would be Racebets.  They allow you to bet in to the PMU pools of most countries and give you 10% bonus on your winnings on British and Irish runners.
